Nascar Betting 101
Nascar is actually a fairly easy sport to make money on. One of the main reasons is because the lines are not as sharp as other sports. Unlike football or basketball there’s not as many people betting nascar so you’ll find a lot more lines that are a bit off the number.
Keys To Betting Nascar
- Types of Bets
- Driver Averages
- Practice Speeds
- Qualifying Results
Types of Bet
There are two main types of bets for nascar. Probably the more popular way to bet nascar is to bet an outright or bet a driver to win the race. This type of bet is you bet one driver to win the race outright for example if you bet Jeff Gordon to win at 10-1 odds. This means if Gordon wins then you win $10 for each $1 you bet so if you bet $100 you would win $1000.
The other popular type of nascar bet is the driver vs driver match-up. With the type of bet you will bet one driver to finish ahead of another driver. This type of bet is basically like betting money lines in other sports. An example would be Tony Stewart -120 vs Jimmie Johnson +100 so you would bet $120 on Stewart to win $100 and if he finishes ahead of Johnson you would win.
Driver Averages
Driver averages is a drivers average finish at a certain track and is one of the most important things to look at when betting nascar. Most drivers have certain tracks that they do well on while other tracks that they don’t do so well on. For example Dale Earnhardt does well on the super speedways Daytona and Talladega but often struggles on the cookie cutter mile and a half tracks. So if your considering betting on a driver make sure to look at how that driver does at the current weeks track.
Practice Speeds
Usually each race will have 2 or 3 practice sessions durning the week leading up to the race and this is a great way to gauge how good a car each driver has. This isn’t always the case but most times if a driver has a fast car in each practice session then he will probably have a fast car in the race and if he has a slow car in practice he’ll probably have a slow car for the race.
Qualifying Results
I think qualifying is overrated but still worth taking a look at. Some drivers are better at qualifying then others a driver that comes to mind is Ryan Newman he usually qualifies better then he finishes and Matt Kenseth is a guy that usually does better in the race then qualifying. One of the main benefits to qualifying good is that a driver wont have to make his way through a lot of traffic and risk getting caught up in a crash or a mistake by one of the other not so good drivers.
By now you should have an idea on how to bet nascar and what stats to pay attention to so now the only other advice I would give you is to watch the race each week it may be a little boring to some but you’ll usually pick up some good of information that you can use for handicapping future races.
